Rescue Group Shuts Down Three Dog Trafficking Facilities in 60 Days, Saving More Than 175 Dogs

More than 175 dogs are safe today after an international rescue organization shut down three illegal dog trafficking facilities across East Asia in a single, high-intensity operation spanning 60 days. No Dogs Left Behind (NDLB) announced the coordinated interventions on October 20, calling it one of the most demanding rescue efforts in the group’s history.

According to the organization, operations like this begin long before any door is kicked in. Teams spend months on reconnaissance, quietly documenting conditions and gathering evidence against the trafficking networks before moving in. That patience matters: the group says it confiscates the dogs lawfully, without paying traffickers a cent, so that rescue money never fuels the trade it is trying to end.

From horror to hospital

What rescuers found inside was grim. Many of the dogs were in severely compromised condition, suffering from trauma, malnutrition and untreated injuries after lives spent in breeding operations or cages bound for slaughterhouses. For the survivors, rescue day was only the beginning of a long road back.

NDLB says every dog has been placed into an emergency medical protocol that starts with triage, wound care and fluid therapy for the most critical patients. From there, the dogs receive full diagnostic testing and bloodwork, screening for infectious diseases, vaccinations, parasite treatment and spay or neuter surgery โ€” the unglamorous, expensive work that turns a rescued animal into an adoptable one.

An urgent appeal

The group has launched an urgent appeal to help cover the cost of medical care, rehabilitation and shelter for the survivors. With more than 175 dogs arriving in a matter of weeks, food, medicine and kennel space are all stretched thin.

It is a reminder of what sits behind every happy adoption photo: investigators willing to spend months in the shadows, veterinarians working around the clock, and supporters whose donations keep the lights on. Three facilities will never harm another dog โ€” and 175 lives that were counted as cargo are now counted as patients, then pets, and finally family members.
