Salesforce Agrees to Buy Braze for $5.66 Billion in Push Deeper Into AI Marketing
October 21, 2026 ยท admin

Salesforce is making one of the biggest bets yet on the future of AI-driven marketing. On October 20, the software giant announced a definitive agreement to acquire Braze, the customer engagement platform, for approximately $5.66 billion in enterprise value โ $47.50 in cash for each Braze Class A share. The transaction is expected to close during Salesforce’s fiscal year 2028.
Braze brings with it roughly 2,770 customers, including household names such as Canva, Dairy Queen, Instacart and Venmo, and a platform built around reaching consumers in real time across channels. Salesforce says the acquisition will complement all four layers of its architecture and strengthen the cross-channel personalisation offered by Marketing Cloud. Braze chief executive Bill Magnuson, for his part, said his company will keep building as Braze.
Why Salesforce wants the engagement layer
The logic is about who controls the moment a brand speaks to a customer. As AI assistants increasingly mediate how buyers research and purchase, the software that times, targets and personalises messages becomes strategically precious. Braze’s real-time engagement tools sit in exactly that layer, alongside Salesforce’s Marketing Cloud, Data 360 and its Agentforce AI agents. Folding Braze in gives Salesforce a stronger claim to own the full journey from customer data to delivered message.
Questions that will follow the deal
Neither company has yet explained how Braze will sit alongside Marketing Cloud’s existing journey products once the deal closes, and that ambiguity matters to customers. Many Braze clients run the platform next to a cloud data warehouse and a CRM that is not Salesforce’s; their contracts will change counterparty sometime after February 2027, and both vendors’ talk of an “open, composable” approach will be tested against the fine print.
The acquisition also underlines how quickly marketing technology is consolidating around AI. On the same day as the Salesforce announcement, rival platforms were launching AI agents of their own, including tools that monitor how AI assistants describe a brand. For marketers, the message of the week is consistent: the software stack that decides what customers see next is being rebuilt โ and Salesforce just paid $5.66 billion to own a bigger piece of it.
